1967 Chevrolet Impala Ben from California

Dear Ben,

You left home to serve in the Army where you were deployed to “take out the trash” in Afghanistan. In a foreign land, half way ‘round the globe you became my wayward son (In physical proximity only!). Busted up by an IED, we got your call, wrenched parental hearts cried to God. Our Ben, confined to bed with broken bones, screws ‘n steel. I asked if you’d like me to start restoring a ’67 Impala to duplicate the one in that weird program you like so much, “Supernatural."

“An opportunity of a lifetime Dad, definitely!”

Now here’s the story of a flinty soldier, a Father’s salute, and the Impala, laced with the Supernatural.

Carry on my wayward son

There’ll be peace when you are done

Lay your weary head to rest

Don’t you cry no more.

I Salute You,

Ben’s favorite show before he left for Afghanistan was "Supernatural," which featured a 1967 Black Chevy Impala that Ben loved. Out of a desire to give his son some joy in life after being hit by an IED in Afghanistan, David offered to pursue what he thought would be a dream ride…a restored 1967 “Supernatural Impala.” By restoring the car not only did Ben learn a ton about car restoration, it also took his mind off of leaving his fellow brothers behind in a foreign land, far from their families and everything they love. The restoration process has helped Ben adjust to new limitations and the new direction his life took. It also gave a father and son the opportunity to focus together on one goal - an awesome ride. With the car fully restored, Ben is off to college, and the car will remain in his Dad's care while Ben heads off to his next adventure.

My name is Sarah, I have been with Hagerty since December of 2013. In my spare time I enjoy riding and competing with my horses. My favorite collector cars are Chevy’s from the Muscle car era. If I had to choose one I would get a 1969 Camaro.
