1955 Chevrolet First Series Pickup Frank from Indiana

Frank’s love for old trucks and an ongoing search to find the right one, was recently rewarded at a Mecum auction. He took proud ownership of a 1955 Chevy 3100 Pickup that had been restored by none other than legendary NASCAR driver, Jimmie Johnson.

Johnson was selected by Valvoline to find and “reinvent” a truck that would be part of promoting the 140th Valvoline Anniversary celebration. Jimmie’s find was in rough shape and sitting in a Georgia field. It was transported to Hendrick Motorsports in North Carolina where he and his performance crew got to work recreating this forgotten First Series. The original motor was replaced with an LS3 and filled with Valvoline’s SynPower motor oil to maximize performance. New suspension and Eagle RS-A tires were other upgrades. Appearance-wise not much was changed inside or out, just a good cleanup with modern, matte paint. The maintained original rustic look is something Frank really likes.

Even though the 1955 Pickup could handle an autocross or even the dragstrip, Frank plans to enjoy pleasure drives or showing off the custom classic at car shows.
